Wandering Under the Full Moon Through the Old Town of Rethymnon
With a strong imprint of medieval Venetian architecture, admirably preserved and enhanced in a modern approach, the historic city of Rethymnon is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in Crete. We could not resist the temptation to take a walk in the evening and to visit the port and the streets of the old city center, famous for its colorful and lively atmosphere, which attracts tourists like a magnet.
The old port has a splendid promenade full of restaurant terraces overlooking the ancient Egyptian lighthouse that dominates the view, with its slender and architecturally lit silhouette. A few hundred meters further on, in the old center that became the commercial heart of town, the labyrinth of streets, paved with stone and covered by chic balconies, all clad in jardinière or by vaults of blooming Bougainvillea, awakens visitors' desire to get lost, the childish curiosity for anything to see, touch and taste, and the fascination for souvenir shops.
